Description

Here is a nice patriotic/racist trade card for the ‘Berry Bros. Hard Oil Finish’ of Detroit, Michigan showing Uncle Sam ‘supplying the world’ with this varnish–and the images shown are very racist: there can be identified by the caricatures an Englishman, a Chinaman, an Irishman, a German, a Russian, a Middle Eastern man, and several others that I don’t know who they are supposed to represent all getting in line for a can of the varnish being filled up from a big wooden barrel! This card was printed by Calvert Lith. Co., Detroit and even has on the front surface some kind of coating to make the card look shiny as well (which is what the varnish should look like!).
