It is approx. 7/8 inch across (2.2 cm) and is in very good condition–there are some minor stains on the edges of the celluloid, but there are no cracks, and the back is in the shape of a shirt sleeve button that is embossed with the ‘Whitehead & Hoag’ company makers’ mark. This is really a superb and unusual advertising piece that is also very uncommon and sought after–it has a cute elephant image for a bicycle tire maker
This is a gorgeous little celluloid advertising button for “Stahl’s Puncture Proof Tires” for bicycles out of Quincy, Illinois. The image is wonderful showing an elephant holding an umbrella on a bicycle riding over nails to prove that they can withstand anything!!
